On February 8, 2023, we will be celebrating Gomez and Sullivan’s 30th anniversary. Gomez and Sullivan Engineers, DPC has been providing specialized engineering, environmental science, and data management services to the water resource and energy sectors since 1993.
We are a growing, engineering and environmental science company working at the intersection of renewable energy, dam safety, and environmental restoration.
The idea of Gomez and Sullivan Engineers became a reality in February 1993. Founding principals Jerry Gomez and Tom Sullivan planned to create a successful water resources engineering and environmental science firm by providing quality consulting services and maintaining a strong client base.
The original two office locations were based in Jerry’s and Tom’s homes in Utica, NY, and Weare, NH, respectively. The fledgling company thrived with the help and support of their families as well as the first official employees, including Pam Gomez, Mark Wamser, and Kirk Smith, who are still with Gomez and Sullivan today! Later that year and in early 1994, the steady growth of the company made it necessary for office space to be acquired, both in downtown Utica and in Dunbarton, NH. This growth has continued over the past 30 years, allowing Gomez and Sullivan Engineers to open locations in Buffalo, NY in 2004 and in Albany, NY in 2013 as well as relocating the NH office to Henniker for additional space in 2009.
With our highly skilled and expertly trained staff, we're the right fit for your job. Let's talk about how we can help you.
When we celebrated our 25th anniversary, we had no idea of the changes that would sweep the nation in the next five years and the challenges we would face. We are extremely proud of how our team has adapted to the changes both inside and outside of our organization. We are positioned for great things in the next 30 years and look forward to the challenges and opportunities yet to come!
As always with major world events, changes in the workforce follow close behind. In the last three years, many people reexamined their work/life balance paradigms. Some entered retirement while others changed careers entirely.
We took this as an opportunity to restructure our understanding of work to best suit our diverse workforce. Our team members guided us on how to enhance an environment that rewards employees well and helps maintain a healthy work/life balance. We are able to offer competitive benefits and salaries to our coworkers that provides exceptional overall compensation package value.
We took the best parts of working from home and in the office to develop our Flexible Work Guidelines, establish core hours and seasonal calendars, and expand vacation time.
We regularly investigate industry benchmarks and marketplace feedback to ensure our compensation packages are both competitive and attractive.
We have a long and consistent history of making annual contributions to our profit-sharing plan. Typical contributions are well above the industry average.
Opportunities and assistance are available to participate in seminars, conferences, professional development, educational hours to maintain licensing/certifications, and collegiate education. Required or relevant licensing and professional membership costs are also supported by the company.
The opportunity for ownership for new shareholders is at the discretion of the existing shareholders and is generally based on a set of criteria that includes overall experience, experience with the company, role in the company, and management philosophy.
We’ve seen a recent surge in growth at Gomez and Sullivan, with 10 new people committed to joining our team so far this year. We’ve built upon and expanded our long-term strategic partnerships and have added new services. In addition to our core services, we are now providing transmission services, migratory fish tracking studies, fisheries population modeling, and culvert replacements to improve aquatic organism passage. We have also broadened our geographic reach with current assignments in the Southeast, Midwest, Southwest, West Coast, and Canada in addition to our core service areas throughout the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic.

We are hiring at each of our four locations and for remote positions throughout the US.
Gomez and Sullivan is excited to build upon the strong foundation laid over the past 30 years in the decades to come. The Infrastructure Act and the Inflation Reduction Act provide significant funding and/or tax relief in several of our core practice areas of dam rehabilitation, hydropower development, and dam removal to address longstanding societal needs. We have worked in the dam and hydropower space for 30 years and in the dam removal/stream restoration space for 20 years. We are well positioned to help our clients take advantage of this funding and advance their projects. By doing this, we see perhaps the most significant opportunity in 30 years to transform the industry, expand our practice, and further diversify our services and locational presence.
Our team has made the last 30 years of Gomez and Sullivan enjoyable and we’ve thrived. We are well positioned for an even more successful next 30 years based on the team we have built, and continue to expand, to meet the coming challenges to the industry and the demands of a transitioning electrical grid.
