Our company has an opening for a Senior Structural Engineer with specific emphasis in dam and hydroelectric power facilities design and analysis or related fields. The ideal candidate will have experience specific to the hydropower industry. This position will be a key player in our Dam Safety and Hydraulic Structures practice. We are seeking a committed, detail-oriented individual to utilize their knowledge and experience for our clients’ immediate and future projects.
It is preferred that this position work out of our Utica, NY or Henniker, NH office, however we will consider candidates that reside near our Albany or Buffalo, NY offices. We may also consider a remote position, however candidates should expect in-office time as a part of the onboarding, and regular office visits ongoing. This position requires travel to project sites, mainly located in the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic.
Development and review (QA/QC) of feasibility studies, design plans and specifications, quantity take-offs, engineering cost estimates, construction sequencing plans, and permit applications.
Preparation of supporting design reports to document structural calculations and design, lead design teams, and coordination with affected disciplines.
Condition assessment of concrete, steel, and earth structures.
Lead technical discussions with regulators and clients as well as public meetings.
Technical writing for project documents, as well as review of junior engineers’ technical writing.
Perform project management activities including planning and delegating work, manage project budgets and schedules, invoicing and communicating resource needs.
Technical guidance and mentoring for junior engineers in their project work and development.
Marketing of professional services and proposal writing.
Interest/ability to become service sector lead for the company.
BS in Civil or Structural Engineering (MS preferred) from an ABET accredited program.
15-25 years of relevant work experience in structural engineering, with specific emphasis in dam and hydroelectric power facilities design and analysis or related fields. Required related experience and certifications
Licensed Professional Engineer and the ability to obtain reciprocity.
Experience preparing and reviewing construction drawings and technical specifications.
Project management/supervisory experience.
Progressive experience in structural analysis and design of concrete and steel structures, with emphasis on dams, hydraulic structures, penstocks/pipelines, retaining walls and flood walls.
Related experience with heavy civil structures such as bridges, deep foundations, retaining walls, etc. will also be considered.
Proficient with the following programs:
The ideal candidate will have experience specific to the hydropower industry. This will include one or more of the following:
Experience and knowledge of applicable state and federal dam safety methodologies, policies and regulations.
Experience with seismic assessment of civil structures and/or geotechnical analysis/design, as well as design of fish passage structures is a plus.
Proficiency with GeoSTUDIO a plus
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
