JOB DESCRIPTION

Our company has an opening for a Recreation/Natural Resources Technician with experience in designing and implementing natural resource studies, gathering and analyzing data, and composing technical reports. The position will be responsible for supporting studies and management plans, assisting with licensing of hydropower projects. We are seeking a committed, detail-oriented individual to utilize their knowledge and experience for our clients’ immediate and future projects.

This position will work out of our Henniker, NH, Utica, or Albany NY office and should not be expected to be fully remote. Our offices follow a hybrid work model, and flexibility to work remotely for specific circumstances is available.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assisting staff scientists and engineers to design and conduct natural resource-related studies (e.g., recreation, aesthetics, whitewater boating)
  • Field work, including installing monitoring equipment and conducting in-person surveys, use observations, site assessments, etc.
  • Natural resources research, data collection, and analysis
  • Technical writing/report development and review
  • Support for other engineering and environmental science projects as needed
  • Purchasing, inventory, and maintenance of study-related supplies and equipment
  • Travel for field work, mostly within New England and NY, with occasional projects throughout the US

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Required:
    • Bachelor’s degree in Natural Resources Planning/Management, Environmental and Resource Economics, Environmental Conservation and Sustainability, Community and Environmental Planning, Environmental Biology, or related degree
    • Natural resources research/data collection and analysis
    • Technical report writing
    • Willingness to work occasional weekends and holidays during field season (typically May-October) to conduct field work
    • Comfortable working outdoors, around water, and interacting with the public
    • Exceptional organization
    • Excellent oral and written communication
    • Attention to detail
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
    • Possess a valid driver’s license

  • Desired:
    • Recreation use and demand research, data collection, analysis, and reporting (including use of trail cameras or pedestrian/traffic counters)
    • Survey design and administration
    • Aesthetics study design/execution
    • Presentation of technical data in virtual and in-person/public meeting formats
    • GIS data analysis and figure development
    • Statistical analysis
    • Interaction with agencies, non-profit organizations, and/or the public to convey technical information
    • Knowledge of hydropower licensing/compliance, governmental regulatory process, and/or hydropower regulations
    • First Aid/CPR certification
    • Leadership
    • Excellent interpersonal skills and comfort with public interaction
