Our company has an opening for a Civil/Structural Engineering Intern in our New Hartford, NY (formerly Utica) office, and we’d like to work with you. The ideal candidate is a current student (third year or above) or recent graduate. This intern will assist our engineering staff with structural engineering services specific to the hydropower sector, including but not limited to hydraulic structures (dams, hydropower plants, penstocks, fish passage structures, etc.) and associated geotechnical solutions. An intern in this position can expect to gain experience in concrete and steel structure design and analysis associated with water retaining and water transmission structures. 

Interns will also assist our engineers and scientists with field assessments, data processing/analysis, and report writing for a variety of projects across our service sectors. Interns may contribute to proposal development efforts and general administrative work as needed. Candidates must be comfortable working outdoors and around water. A valid driver’s license is required; access to a personal vehicle is desirable. Internships begin mid-May and end in the fall with flexible start/end dates. 


  • Majoring in Civil or Structural Engineering 
  • Ideal candidates will have completed the following coursework by May 2024: 
    • Drafting software (e.g., AutoCAD, Civil3D, or Revit) 
    • Strength of Materials or Structural Analysis   Geotechnical Engineering or Soil Mechanics 
  • Experience or education with any of the following is a plus:  
    • Field assessments and surveying  
    • Design of concrete and steel structures 
    • Structural analysis software (e.g., Visual Analysis, STAAD.Pro) 
    • Geotechnical analysis software (i.e., GeoStudio Suite including SEEP/W, SLOPE/W, QUAKE/W) 
    • Finite element modeling and structural analysis 


Gomez and Sullivan offers competitive wages for all internships. Interns are eligible for overtime pay for work over 40 hours in a given work week and earned, paid sick time.
