Our company has an opening for an Aquatic/Fisheries Technician (Seasonal) with experience in fisheries biology and ecology in our Utica, NY office. The ideal candidate would be a well-rounded individual with experience in fisheries survey methods, water quality surveys, aquatic habitat assessments, stream surveys, and motorboat operation. We are seeking a committed, detail-oriented individual who will be able to utilize their knowledge and experience for our clients’ immediate and future projects.
This is a Full Time, Seasonal position. The work will begin mid-May and last through the fall of 2023 with flexible start/end dates.
Participation as part of a field crew, potentially acting as crew leader, on a wide variety of fisheries and aquatic resources studies
Operation of motorboats and other scientific equipment
Interaction and coordination with professionals from other resource disciplines on larger projects
Adherence to safety procedures during field work
B.S. in fisheries or aquatic sciences
1 to 5 years of field experience, full time or seasonal
Boating skills or boating education certificate
Experience in the following areas:
Fisheries and aquatic field sampling
Water quality surveys
Stream flow and habitat assessments
Leading field sampling efforts
Additional experience with any of the following is a plus:
Backpack and boat electrofishing
Gill net and seine surveys
Macroinvertebrate surveys
Mussel surveys
Fish passage
Hydropower licensing
River geomorphic mapping
Radio telemetry
Topographic/Bathymetric surveys
GIS
Familiarity with life history and habitat requirements for freshwater and diadromous fish
Analysis and interpretation of study results to develop defensible conclusions
Fisheries-related literature reviews and desktop analyses
Assistance with written scientific reports and other visual presentations of study results
Application of knowledge, skills, and abilities to evaluate impacts of various resource uses on fisheries and aquatic life
Interaction with agency and non-governmental organizations on study planning and reporting
